birdstatic @ 10:07 pm:
Hey chicago queers, will you guys do me an amazing favor and "like" this guys page?? He is my amazing gay hairstylist and has been for 6 years. He is trying to promote his career and will give me a free haircut ($60 value) if I get a shit ton of people to like his page. Will you please help me out and like his page? He cuts hair at Gallery of Hair in Chicago. He is without a doubt the most talented hair stylist around. He is also amazing at doing hair color. He's dyed my hair black and purple, pink and black, turquoise and blue, and all sorts of fun colors. He's always given me the edgiest haircuts so if you like having badass unique hair you should do me a favor and like this and consider making an appointment with him.

Also, talk about haircuts in this post, who cuts your hair, if you have a dedicated hair stylist, etc.

thank you so much <3

ryryrendon @ 09:03 pm: My new FTM YOUTUBE Channel!

im ryan, and im ftm! yah

i just wanted to post about my new youtube channel, where im trying to set up a place for people to talk about ftm everyday issues. Ive set up a few videos already and am open to ideas to make new videos. one of the more important reasons for doing this was because i felt that the lgbt community has a way of excluding queer people of color, and being hispanic myself, i identify with this feeling. i havent seen much out there based on these issues and thought maybe this could be a place for some of that to be spoken about.

well heres the channel check it out!

bialogue @ 07:05 pm: On Bisexuals and “Hetero Privilege”

I've seen bisexual friends, whose lives were heteronormative in every way, lose their jobs because they came out as bisexual at work. Just because you've got the opposite sex partner/spouse, the house, the kids and the traditional gender presentation doesn't mean that heteroprivilege can't be pulled out from underneath you at any time like a rug.

I can't help noticing that the whole subject of heteroprivilege comes up whenever bisexuality comes up or when a bisexual comes out in a LGBTQ organization.Collapse )

meritcarrot @ 01:17 am: Established gay groups?
Hi. My name is Merit. In the last year my sister and I have become painfully aware of the lack of resources for homeless gay youth living in Chicago, and we kind of want to do something about it. We're not local, but we live close, and while we're involved with women's groups and GLBT groups in our town, we don't know how to get in touch with the same in Chicago.

Anyways, we were looking for tips on who to talk to in terms of wrangling donations or space for a gay shelter. We are not specifically looking for people who are willing to donate, but more like recommendations of groups to contact to get us involved with the gay community in Chicago. We are especially looking to get in touch with groups who are politically and socially active, and probably already involved in fundraising/spreading the word.

So, any numbers of who to call, or times/places of meetings that we could pop our heads in would be awesome. Again, we're just looking to get involved with the local GLBT community and nothing more for now, so you don't have to be worried about anybody's financial situation when suggesting any one get together :)

freelark @ 01:18 pm: Solidarity with Trans People in Chicago: Stellar's Contingent at Dyke March
Stellar is inviting TBLGQ folks to participate in a contingent at Dyke March where all transgender people will be welcome. After some unfortunate incidents that happened within the Chicago Dyke March Collective (CDMC) last year some transgender people do not feel comfortable marching alone at Dyke March. Stellar has formed to offer a space where transgender people and allies can look out for each other.

According to CDMC's MySpace page Dyke March is a "mobilization and celebration of dyke, queer, and transgender resilience". (We'll be there to make sure they remember the "and transgender" part.) This year Dyke March is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 PM on Saturday, June 26 at 7054 S. Jeffery Blvd. If you're interested in what Stellar is doing, please write to us at march4all@gmail.com.
